Sanders Opposes Squad Request for Permanent Cease-fire between Israel and Hamas

Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) is not a friend to Israel, but he sure can read the temperature of the country.

While he has made some critical comments about Israel and its war with Hamas, he is not too ignorant of the support for Israel in this country that he would recommend siding with members of the Squad on this front.

The Squad wants a permanent cease-fire, which he does not support, but he does support the temporary cease-fire for humanitarian aid.

They’re Wrong

All of the big names of the Squad have come forward to demand the United States pressure Israel for a permanent cease-fire in its war against Hamas.

This includes Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), who has already been censured for anti-Semitic comments she made about Israel.

Tlaib tried to defend the “from the river to the sea” rallying cry of Palestine, which is widely regarded as promoting the complete elimination of Israel and Israeli Jews.

Sanders, who is allied with the Squad, is now trying to walk the middle ground.

In response to the calls by the Squad for a permanent cease-fire, Sanders stated, "First of all, I strongly support and wish and hope that the United States will support the United Nations resolution that was vetoed, that we vetoed the other day.

"That was a humanitarian pause, a humanitarian cease-fire that would, by the way, call for the release of all of the hostages held by Hamas and would have allowed the U.N. and other agencies to begin to supply the enormous amount of humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people.

“In terms of a permanent cease-fire, I don't know how you could have a permanent cease-fire when Hamas has said before Oct. 7 and after Oct. 7 that they want to destroy Israel. They want a permanent war. I don't know how you have a permanent cease-fire with an attitude like that."

Sanders has also vocally opposed no-strings-attached aid for Israel, saying that it would be akin to promoting an "all-out war against innocent men, women and children who have nothing to do with Hamas.”

Netanyahu has held firm after the October 7 terror attack against Israel that this war cannot end until Hamas is completely removed from the picture.

Recently, numerous high-ranking members of Hamas were killed in strikes and it was reported that the IDF was closing on the top leaders of Hamas, believing it would only be a matter of days before they could take them out.

The sooner Israel is able to end this war, the better for Netanyahu, as this rogue element within our government is slowly but surely bleeding support away from Israel.
