Trump Asks Judge to Reject AG’s Challenge to Bond

New York Attorney General Letitia James is up to no good again.

James has filed a challenge to Donald Trump’s $175 million bond in an effort to proceed with seizing Trump’s properties and deny Trump’s right of appeal.

Trump, however, is now asking the judge to dismiss her filing, noting that his entire bond is secured in cash.

Leave Me Alone

When the first bond was ordered for Trump, it was for the full amount of the judgment, which was nearly $500 million when penalties and interest were included.

Donald Trump was down to his last day of being able to post the bond when his appeal came through.

The appeals court ordered that Trump needed to “only” post the $175 million, which Trump secured from Knight Specialty Insurance Company.

Trump stated at the time that he had secured the bond with cash.

After James challenged the bond, an affirmation of the bond was filed as well as Trump’s attorneys filing to have her challenge dismissed.

The affirmation filing states, “The DJT Trust granted KSIC a security interest in a Schwab brokerage account, in which the DJT Trust is obligated to maintain no less than $175 million in cash or cash equivalents at all times.

“KSIC also has a standing agreement with its parent company, Knight Insurance Company, Ltd. (‘KIC’), by which KIC reinsures 100% of KSIC’s risk. The $175 million bond at issue is adequately secured.”

Trump’s attorneys added, “The documentary evidence in support of justification is overwhelming and obviates any need for a hearing to set aside the exception or to justify KSIC as surety.”

James is challenging the bond on the grounds that KSIC is not authorized to post a bond in New York state and that KSIC did not have the proper certification from the state regulator.

As we all know, Trump has not exactly been met with friendly judges on this matter, and having that bond voided would be a complete and utter disaster for Trump.

If it is declined, he would likely post the $175 million on his own rather than risk his appeal and James's ability to seize his assets.
