Top Biden Ally James Clyburn Leaving Democrat Leadership

Joe Biden is about to lose on one of the strongest voices supporting him in Congress today.

Rep. James Clyburn (D-S.C.), who saved Joe Biden’s 2020 campaign, has announced he is stepping down from his caucus leadership position.

Clyburn was the last of the old guard that was still in power after Reps. Pelosi (D-CA) and Hoyer (D-MD) removed themselves from leadership consideration after the 2022 cycle.

He’s Done

If you recall, Joe Biden’s campaign was dead in the water in 2020 after suffering defeats in the early voting states.

Biden was not polling well in South Carolina at the time, then Clyburn jumped in, endorsed Biden, and Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) was sent packing.

When Pelosi and Hoyer stepped down and turned the party over to Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) and his leadership team, most were stunned that Clyburn, then 81, was going to remain in leadership rather than turn complete control over to the new breed.

That changed on Wednesday, as Clyburn made it official he was going to take a step back.

However, the 83-year congressman made it clear that he plans on running for another term because we need another octogenarian in Washington.

He stated, “I will run for re-election for the Sixth Congressional District.

“Events of the last several years have made it clear that the greatness of America is at peril, and the threats to our continued pursuit of ‘a more perfect Union’ are real.”

Clyburn views himself as one of the few people who can save our Democracy from the bad orange man, proving he is just another narcissist who will go to his grave while occupying a congressional seat.

If there was ever an argument for term and/or age limits in Congress, Pelosi and Clyburn are Exhibits A and B.
