REPORT: Trump Considered Daughter Ivanka as Running Mate in 2016

Ever since Trump officially got the nod as the GOP candidate for the 2024 presidential race, we have been sitting at the edge of our seats waiting for Trump to make his choice for VP.

With it being election season, you know the books are going to start to fly, and former Trump campaign deputy Rick Gates just published one that is already creating a buzz.

According to Gates, Trump strongly considered his daughter, Ivanka, as his running mate during the 2016 election.

Ivanka in the Lead

We all know that Trump has always regarded his daughter, Ivanka, highly, so much so that he was apparently looking to add her to his ticket.

I have to admit, I was shocked that Trump eventually named Pence, as I was sure he would have chosen a woman as his running mate, especially with how poorly he was polling among women at the time.

Ivanka, however, would not have been the right choice, for several reasons.

First, there would have been immediate criticism for nepotism, as we saw when Trump hired her as an adviser.

Second, it was no secret that Ivanka leaned more left than right, so this would have been a complete disaster.

In the book, "Wicked Game: An Insider’s Story on How Trump Won, Mueller Failed and America Lost," Gates explained how all this almost came to be.

Trump reportedly suggested the idea to some aides, with the passage reading, “All heads turned toward her, and she just looked surprised.

“We all knew Trump well enough to keep our mouths shut and not laugh. He went on: ‘She’s bright, she’s smart, she’s beautiful, and the people would love her!”

Eventually, as we all know, Trump settled on Mike Pence, with a scathing rebuke of Hillary Clinton cementing his future as Trump’s VP.

This time around, Trump will not be considering Ivanka, as she has distanced herself from the political world.

I still hold by my pick that anyone other than Senator Tim Scott (R-S.C.) would be a huge mistake by Trump.
