Pennsylvania Governor Shapiro cancels Hamptons trip days before Harris names VP
If reports are to be believed, then Kamala Harris' VP shortlist could already be down to two people, Senator Mark Kelly of Arizona, and Governor Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania.
New information disclosing that Josh Shapiro has cancelled his trip to the Hamptons on the weekend of August 3 has increased speculation that he may be making himself available for some sort of vice presidential announcement in the near future.
Shapiro isn't without his controversies.
After all, President Donald Trump was shot in the face in Shapiro's state less than a month ago AND he's currently facing allegations of sexual harassment and coverup on his watch.
Still, Josh Shapiro might have plans for this weekend that are even bigger than a family vacation.
"The Governor’s trip was planned several weeks ago and included several fundraisers for his own campaign committee," a Shapiro spokesperson said. "His schedule has changed and he is no longer traveling to the Hamptons this weekend."
Mark Kelly, reported to be the other main contender for Kamala's VP spot, is also currently dealing with his own controversies.
Despite saying things like "I’ve known China as an adversary my entire adult life" back in 2020, Mark Kelly has been proven to have deep ties to China.
He's been accused of selling land in his state to foreign governments and was one of the founders of a surveillance balloon company that was exposed to have major ties to China.
Democrats probably don't want another spy balloon controversy so soon after the first one, and many people are wondering if Kelly could have possibly been involved in the Chinese balloon that was floating over America in 2024.
Both of these men would help Kamala's appeal in battleground states that she'd really like to win, but are questions about their character going to outweigh any home-field advantage they provide to Kamala Harris?
Kamala hasn't officially made her decision yet, so we're just going to have to wait and see for now.
