Johnson Vows to Keep Speakership Amid Effort to Remove Him by Greene
Speaker Johnson (R-LA) has found himself the subject of an outright attack.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) had already made the motion to vacate, which had pretty much been laughed off by the caucus and the Speaker.
That all changed when Rep. Massie (R-KY) flipped and asked Johnson to resign this week with an attached threat.
Resign, Or Else
Massie, like many of the other Freedom Caucus members, is upset with Johnson's conducting business as usual in the House.
When he put that $1.2 trillion spending bill through the House that was loaded with earmarks and less than 72 hours to review, it started a ripple in the pond.
Now that Johnson is vowing to floor aid for Ukraine and Israel, Greene may now have the support she needs to get rid of Johnson with a motion to vacate.
One of the House members fed up with this business-as-usual approach is Rep. Massie, who met with Johnson and demanded that he resign.
Johnson, as we would expect, was defiant in his answer, stating, "I am not resigning.
"It is, in my view an absurd notion that someone would bring a vacate motion. We're simply here trying to do our job. It is not helpful.
“It is not helping the House Republicans advance our agenda, which is in the best interest of the American people."
Johnson is 100% right, but so is Massie to be honest, but I honestly think that Massie and Greene need to back off and allow the House to conduct its business with Johnson holding the gavel until the next term.
If they remove Johnson, they are literally giving the Democrats everything they need to either take over the House before the end of the term or, worse, give Dems control of the House after the 2024 election.
This really is “big picture” stuff, and Massie and Greene are clearly thinking smaller picture here.
If Donald Trump wins but the GOP loses the House and Senate, someone might as well drop off a stack of crosswords for Trump to do over the next four years.
Worse, if Biden wins and Dems get both chambers, they have unfettered control of our government… so think about all the harm they can do with another four years of not being challenged before you start standing behind this new effort to have Johnson removed.
