Jan. 6 'shaman' weighs in on upcoming Trump election certification, potential pardons
The events of Jan. 6, 2021 sparked a firestorm and a controversy that has yet to fully subside, and one of the most notable figures to emerge from that fateful day recently spoke about the political events set to occur on its upcoming anniversary.
Jacob Chansley, who became known as the “J6 Shaman,” gave an interview to Breitbart News, offering his thoughts on the imminent certification of the 2024 election results, a process that is slated to take place, once again, on Jan. 6.
Jan. 6 “Shaman” tells all
With the impending certification of President-elect Donald Trump's win set to take place early next month, Chansley was asked his thoughts on the upcoming events.
Noting that the victory will become official on the same date the Capitol unrest occurred just four years prior, Chansley declared the fact to simply be “evidence that God has a sense of humor.”
“God loves poetic justice,” Chansley added, also pointing to, as he described it, “Joe Scarborough just bad-mouthing Donald Trump for years” and subsequently having to “go kiss the ring at Mar-a-Lago” as evidence of this divine humor.
Chansley was also asked to weigh in on suggestions that Trump is poised to offer pardons to some of those convicted for their participation on Jan. 6 demonstrations, expressing his hope that “it will get some people out of prison.”
The notorious protestor added, “I'm still on probation, so technically I'm still serving my sentence, so I'm hoping if he decides to do a blanket pardon, that'd be great. I would love to have my record clean. But there's still people that are suffering behind bars, and I would like to see them free.”
Chansley's hopes fulfilled?
It is not just Chansley who is waiting with bated breath on a decision from Trump on whether or not he will extend clemency to many of those involved in the events of Jan. 6, 2021.
Earlier this month, the president-elect offered hope that he may indeed grant pardons to those who were caught up in the unrest that gripped the Capitol in the wake of the 2020 election, as NBC News noted.
Speaking to Kristin Welker on Meet the Press, Trump expressed his belief that many Jan. 6 defendants are unfairly “living in hell” and were deserving of clemency.
Hinting at what could be a broad grant of relief, Trump told Welker, “I'm going to be acting very quickly. First day. They've been in there for years, and they're in a filthy, disgusting place that shouldn't even be allowed to be open.”
Though Trump indicated that some protestors who were “radical, crazy” or dangerous during the events of Jan. 6 may not receive clemency, many likely would, and whether that includes Chansley, only time will tell.
