Is Jeffries More Powerful Than Speaker Johnson?

Rep. Mike Johnson (R-LA) may now be the Speaker of the House, but is he the most powerful man in the House?

There are quite a few people questioning that after Minority Leader Jeffries (D-N.Y.) has decided to step up to protect Johnson.

There is a real argument to now be made that Jeffries is the one with more juice.

Who Has the Juice?

Generally speaking, the minority leader is nothing more than a mouthpiece.

He or she whines about opposition legislation, but in the end, they really cannot do anything to stop it if the majority has its act together.

Right now, I think we can all agree, that is not the case with this particular class of Republicans, as it has been pure chaos since the GOP took over the House after the 2022 cycle.

Think about it…

When legislation hit the floor to keep the government running, Jeffries got Democrats on the same page to back the legislation, which passed with more Democrat support than Republican.

When $95 billion in foreign aid was put on the table, Democrats, not Republicans, forced through the legislation.

With Johnson on the verge of being removed as Speaker, Jeffries stepped up with his fellow Democrat leaders to save him, vowing to put down Rep. Greene's (R-GA) effort to oust him.

Some have called Jeffries a “shadow Speaker,” as the House is passing legislation that favors Democrats far more than it does Republicans.

I am not sure if that is more of a testimony to Jeffries' strong hand with the Democrat caucus or the massive dissent that is flowing through the GOP ranks right now.

Whatever it is, we need to take it very seriously because Dems, as we stand right now, are poised to take the House back, which is just a complete and utter disaster.

If Trump wins, the House will be positioned to block every piece of legislation as well as sit on their perch waiting for one wrong move to impeach Trump again.

If Trump loses, Dems would likely have free rein of the entire government.

Something else to consider here is that we have three Supreme Court justices on the conservative side of the bench who are starting down the barrel at retirement.

So, yeah… color me concerned about the impact of the upcoming election.
