Former Obama speechwriter says Biden's private anger at Israeli air strike that killed aid workers makes him look weak

Jon Favreau, a former speech writer for Barack Obama and host of "Pod Save America," blasted President Joe Biden Wednesday on X for being "privately enraged" over an Israeli air strike in Gaza that killed seven aid workers, saying that it makes him look weak.

"The President doesn't get credit for being 'privately enraged' when he still refuses to use leverage to stop the IDF from killing and starving innocent people," Favreau wrote. "These stories only make him look weak."

A Politico report detailed that Biden took Israel to task for the strike, called for "accountability" for those involved, and demanded more humanitarian aid for Gaza. One of the seven World Central Kitchen workers killed was a Canadian-U.S. citizen.

No change in policy

But senior Biden officials said he would not be changing any of his official policies around support for Israel as it responds to a horrific attack that killed 1,200 of its people on October 7.

“That’s all we have planned,” the official said anonymously.

Others on the left have also blasted Biden for continuing to support Israel.

Democratic Michigan state Rep. Abraham Aiyash said in a tweet that “Deeds are more important than dialogue” and added, "The President is prioritizing Netanyahu’s Israel over the preservation of innocent life and basic human decency – and risks unraveling American democracy because of it.”

On the other hand

Republicans were quick to point out that Israel was only acting in response to what Hamas had done.

“How about Biden being outraged over the American and Israeli hostages being brutalized by the Hamas savages and remembering that Hamas is the cause of all of this tragedy,” Rep. Derrick Van Orden (R-WI) responded on X.

“Biden has abandoned Israel,” he added.

Rep. Mike Waltz (R-FL) reminded the public that Biden's Defense Department had mistakenly targeted aid worker Zemari Ahmadi with a drone attack during the disastrous Afghanistan pullout in 2021, killing him and several members of his family.

“REMINDER: The Biden Administration carried out a drone strike on an aid worker and his family during the disastrous Afghanistan withdrawal,” Waltz tweeted. “There was no accountability for that action.”

"Biden might want to hold off on the righteous indignation and criticism,” he added.

A total of 196 humanitarian workers have been killed in Gaza since Israel began to attack it, according to the U.N.

What the left doesn't want to remember, however, is that Israel has vowed to annihilate Hamas for what it did and is still doing to her people, and Hamas is not above using civilians as human shields while it tries to protect itself. It's disingenuous to support Israel's right to defend itself and then constantly criticize it for doing what it has to do to achieve its aim.
