DOJ Cites AI Issues in Refusal to Release Biden Special Counsel Interview Tapes

Earlier this year, several House committees called on Attorney General Merrick Garland to release the audio tapes of the Joe Biden interview with Special Counsel Hur.

At first, Garland said he would not release the tapes because he did not want them to be weaponized during the political cycle.

Now the DOJ is saying they don’t want to release the audio to feed possible AI deepfakes of Biden.

Ridiculous

There is more than enough audio of Joe Biden out there for the AI deepfakes to run wild.

All the DOJ needs to do is go on Instagram, X, or TikTok to see that, so this excuse just does not hold water.

Regardless, the DOJ gave it a shot, stating, "The passage of time and advancements in audio, artificial intelligence, and ‘deep fake’ technologies only amplify concerns about malicious manipulation of audio files.

“If the audio recording is released here, it is easy to foresee that it could be improperly altered and that the altered file could be passed off as an authentic recording and widely distributed.”

Well, then, how about if the committee vows not to release the audio but just match it up against the transcript that was provided?

That, after all, appears to be the more important aspect of this investigation.

While I would love to hear those tapes, I am more interested in finding out if the White House had the transcript altered to give a better perception of Biden during the Q&A.

Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) responded to the blockade by the DOJ, stating, "President Biden is apparently afraid for the citizens of this country and everyone to hear those tapes.

"They obviously confirm what the special counsel has found, and would likely cause, I suppose, in his estimation, such alarm with the American people that the president is using all of his power to suppress their release."

This might not be such a big deal if Biden had not been caught lying about the interview in the first place, but he has already been caught rearranging the facts on several key subjects, most notably who brought up Beau Biden.

I think the American people deserve to know the truth here.
