Boulder, CO, Police Working New Tips on JonBenét Ramsey Case

It has been 28 years since the murder of 6-year-old JonBenét Ramsey in a case that paralyzed the nation.

How could someone hurt such an innocent child in such a horrible way?

To this day, the crime remains a cold case, but that could change based on a new influx of tips received by Boulder, CO, police.

New Leads

The young beauty queen was strangled and beaten in the basement of her family’s home in Boulder.

Fingers were pointed at several family members, but no charges were ever filed.

There have been numerous cold case shows to look at the murder, but other than speculation, nobody has ever been brought to justice for this horrific murder.

In November, Netflix released another cold case documentary called “Cold Case: Who Killed JonBenét Ramsey.”

After the documentary, police said the tip lines were burning up, stating, “There have been more than 100.

“The next move is to decide which ones are credible and which ones are not. But we’re looking at every single tip and deciding if it can help us solve the case. It’s a priority here.”

John Andrew Ramsey stated, “A key reason why we continue participating in media interviews is the hope of compelling that one person who knows something to come forward.”

Interestingly, Burke Ramsey, JonBenet’s brother, declined to be in this documentary. I say it is “interesting” because he was very much the target of the investigation for some time until the police eventually cleared everyone in the family.

He was also looked at as a possible suspect when “The Case of: JonBenét Ramsey,” another documentary on the subject, aired in 2016.

I actually know one of the profilers that was featured in that series, and they also looked at Burke as a top suspect, and the network and participants ended up being sued for their conclusions. That lawsuit was settled out of court for an undisclosed amount.

If you are unfamiliar with the case, Ramsey’s parents reported her missing on December 26, 1996, only hours later to find her in the basement with a garrote around her neck and her head smashed in with a rock.

DNA evidence excluded the parents and Burke about two weeks later, and they were all formally exonerated in the murder in 2008.

This has been a major stain on the Boulder Police Department for decades, so they are hoping this new influx of tips will finally lead them to JonBenet’s killer.
