Ashley Judd Reveals Details of Naomi's Suicide After Finding Body

Ashley Judd, 55, recounted the emotional moment she discovered her mother Naomi Judd's lifeless body after the 76-year-old committed suicide on April 30, 2022.

Naomi, a renowned country singer, died from a single gunshot to the head, leaving behind a suicide note at her residence in Leiper's Fork, Tennessee.

An autopsy report revealed her ongoing struggles with significant anxiety, depression, and bipolar disorder.

During an episode of CNN's "All There Is" with Anderson Cooper, 56, Ashley opened up about the traumatic and unexpected nature of her mother's death. Despite the pain, she expressed gratitude for being there for her mother in her final moments.

Ashley shared her immediate response upon discovering Naomi's self-harm, expressing understanding and reassurance, saying, "Momma, I see how much you've been suffering, and it is okay... I am here, and it is okay to let go."

In a poignant moment, Ashley revealed that she encouraged her mother to find peace by reuniting with late loved ones, forgiving all grievances, and leaving everything behind.

The conversation between Ashley and Cooper took a turn as Cooper, reflecting on his brother Carter's suicide in 1988 at the age of 23, broke down in tears. Ashley offered support, stating, 'I'm here Anderson.'

Carter Cooper had tragically jumped to his death off the balcony of his mother Gloria Vanderbilt's apartment in New York City.

Cooper shared his struggle with the violent end of his brother's life, prompting a discussion with Ashley about how Naomi's suicide affected her understanding of her mother.

Ashley responded by emphasizing the importance of remembering individuals for how they lived, acknowledging that the circumstances of their death are just a part of a larger narrative.

Notably, just two weeks before her death, Naomi Judd had made a surprise appearance at the Country Music Awards, singing a song of reconciliation with her daughter Wynonna. The family released a statement following Naomi's death, attributing it to mental illness and urging privacy for dignified grieving.
