Alma Powell, wife of Colin Powell, dies at 86
Colin Luther Powell was a great man who made history for being America's first Black secretary of state in the nation's history.
He served under President George W. Bush and in the aftermath of 9/11, so many people remember Powell for his leadership during that time.
Unfortunately, Colin Powell passed away back in 2021. Now, the love of his life, wife Alma Powell, has been declared deceased as well.
Alma Powell's husband may have been a little bit more famous than her, but that doesn't mean she didn't forge her own path and make a difference in this country.
Known for being a civic leader, Alma Powell has her own great legacy to be proud of.
A spokeswoman for the family, Peggy Cifrino, confirmed that Colin Powell's wife has passed away.
Alma Powell's children, Michael, Linda, and Annemarie released a joint statement honoring their mother:
"During childhoods marked by constant moving to new homes, we always felt secure, because home was wherever she stood," they said.
"She was an exemplary role model for us and for the world. She served our country, alongside our father, with intelligence and grace. We will miss her terribly but take comfort in the fact that she had a life so well-lived and is reunited with our father."
Alma Powell married Colin Powell in 1962, meaning that the couple had spent almost 60 years together before Colin's death back in 2021.
In what is believed to be Colin's final interview, he called his wife the best person he'd ever known.
"She was always there for me, and she’d tell me, ‘That’s not a good idea,'" Colin said. "She was usually right."
Rest in peace to Powell.
Both of them.
America lost a great leader.
Two of them.
