Steve Bannon campaigns for Trump on his first day out of prison
Steve Bannon, a longtime supporter of Donald Trump, was released from federal prison early Tuesday.
He immediately resumed his full-throated support for the former president, imploring Republicans to turn out in large numbers next week to defeat Democratic nominee Vice President Kamala Harris, according to The Associated Press.
Bannon was sentenced to a four-month prison term for refusing to comply with a subpoena during the congressional inquiry into the attack on the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.
He departed the Federal Correctional Institution in Danbury, Connecticut, and headed to Manhattan, where he resumed his WarRoom podcast and online program.
From Bannon
“I’m finally out of being a political prisoner,” Bannon declared speaking to the media at an event a few hours after his release.
“I think you can see today I’m far from broken. I’ve been empowered by my four months in Danbury federal prison.”
According to him, the encounter was empowering due to the people he met and their feedback regarding Harris.
“I was able to listen, to observe and to learn and from working-class minorities — young African American men and Hispanic men and yes, Puerto Rican men — about what their lives are,” Bannon said, asserting that his fellow prisoners were not fans of Harris and the Biden administration’s record on incarceration.
The Charges
In addition, he denied any wrongdoing and stated that he had a conversation with Trump on Tuesday, claiming that the 2020 election was "stolen" from him.
Earlier in the day, on his web show and podcast, Bannon made similar comments regarding the election and his incarceration.
He stated that former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi sent him to prison in order to silence him, and he criticized Democrats and their goals.
Following the Supreme Court's rejection of his request to postpone his prison term pending his appeal of conviction, Bannon, 70, reported to the prison on July 1.
