RNC Claims Dems Deleting Drop Box Surveillance Footage
For a party that claims it is all about free and fair elections, Democrats sure are creating a lot of controversies during this election season.
According to new reports, Detroit officials have been accused of deleting surveillance footage of ballot drop boxes.
The Republican National Committee has now filed suit for the alleged deletion of the footage.
Get Rid of It
On Tuesday, the RNC and Jonathan Koch filed a suit, charging Detroit with a violation of the Freedom of Information Act for having allegedly deleted surveillance footage of election drop boxes.
The parties had submitted a request for the footage in August, but the city had requested an extension to produce the requested documentation.
Then, on September 16, Koch received a note from the city saying it would not be able to produce the footage because, after 30 days, the footage was recorded over, so the requested footage was no longer available.
RNC Chairman Michael Whatley stated, "Deleting drop box surveillance footage while there is a pending FOIA request for it is an assault on transparency.
"This breach of trust is exactly what reduces confidence in our elections. We will hold Detroit accountable, as this secrecy has no place in a fair and secure election -- Michiganders deserve far better."
The city of Detroit comically responded, "Our own failure to respond to the FOIA in a timely manner gave the RNC the opportunity to file a frivolous lawsuit. The filing is designed to cause embarrassment and to undermine faith in our ability to run a problem free election.
“I guarantee you there was no nefarious activity at the locations where video tapes were requested. That said here is what I would say The City of Detroit receives almost 9,000 FOIA requests each year.
“We work to comply with each request and in this case informed the requestor we would need more time. By the time we found the video it had been reused and the requested footage was not available.
“We work every day to improve our processes, and our goal remains to preserve all data according to the policy."
This, my friends, is gaslighting.
The city even admits it did not respond in time, so now it is trying to reverse the narrative that the RNC is in the wrong.
If they were serious about free and fair elections, the RNC request would have taken precedence simply because the city knows how this would go.
I would make the argument that the city did this on purpose solely so it could reverse the attack on the RNC.
Free and fair elections... I am not sure “fair” is even a thing in this country any longer.
