Vance Among Top 5 GOP Senators for Missing Votes

The list is out and it is not good for some key Republicans.

The list to which I am speaking is the names of the Senators who missed the most votes during the last session of Congress.

For the GOP, two of the top offenders were Senators Tim Scott (R-S.C.) and JD Vance (R-OH).

Not a Good Look

The Democrats on this list were largely names we expected to see.

Senator John Fetterman (D-PA) was on there, but Fetterman was struggling with a lot of medical and mental issues early in his term, so this is not a surprise.

Senators Joe Manchin (I-W.V.) and Kyrsten Sinema (I-AZ) are both retiring and were at odds with the party, as they appeared to mail in their final few months.

For the GOP, three of the top five create a concern and bring to light something I have been complaining about since I first started to cover politics.

Scott was on the list, who ran for president and campaigned heavily for Donald Trump.

JD Vance, Trump’s VP, was also on the list and campaigned heavily.

Senator Mike Braun (R-IN, who ran for governor, is on the list.

Three of the top five, and they all have something in common... they were running for office other than Senator.

I have long believed that if you are going to run for office other than what you are currently holding, you need to resign your seat or commit to doing your job, which means showing up to vote on legislation.

I don’t care what side of the aisle they are on, if they are not voting and representing their constituents, they are not doing their jobs.

Think of some of the judges that the administration has been pushing through and how some of them could have been blocked had all Republicans shown up to vote.

This, along with term limits in the House and Senate, would be among my top five wish-list items that I would love to see addressed by Congress during the next session, but my guess is that it will never happen.

Far too many politicians run for another office with the safety net of their current seat.

In the meantime, their constituents pay the price by not being represented in Congress by the individual they voted for to do just that.
