Trump Says He Will Drop Hammer on China Buying American Land

Over the last few years, reports have been circulating that the Chinese are quietly grabbing up plots of farmland around the country.

This has become a very serious concern, especially when you consider the challenges we are already facing on the grocery front.

Donald Trump says he will fix this by dropping the hammer on taking back our homeland.

Trump to the Rescue

We have seen numerous politicians introduce legislation that would prevent China from buying up land here, but it never seems to take grip.

Trump, however, thinks he can change that.

On Sunday afternoon, Trump stated, “We have to have control of our land.

“We have to have control of our economy. We have to have control of our borders. We have to make sure we’re in charge of our own country.

“We’re losing that with these people, these unbelievable so-called leaders we have. They’re allowing our country to be sold out from under us.

“We have to be very careful and we have to be very prudent. We can’t let this happen.

“Do you think China would let us go in and buy their land and do what they do? I don’t think so, okay. It won’t happen. So we have to be very careful.”

I know this has been a topic of discussion in Texas, where reports dating back to 2021 of a Chinese billionaire snatching up 140,000 acres in Val Verde County, which is right on the border.

Last year, the Texas Senate passed Senate Bill 147, which would have banned China, Iran, North Korea, and Russia from buying up land in the state.

The Texas House killed the bill, however, with the Texas Farm Bureau saying blocking these sales would impede sellers' property rights.

Trump says he will put in new guidelines that would block the Chinese from grabbing American farmland, explaining, “I’ve always done that, and I’ve also done it having to do with telecommunications as an example.’

“People from other countries wanted to do our telecommunications and I wouldn’t allow it. We have to be careful. We’re going to be very firm on it.”

Telecommunications is a different ballgame from land ownership, which would likely be deferred to a state issue by the Supreme Court.

Again, Trump may be making promises he cannot fulfill, so I am hoping we see more information about this to clearly outline what powers the federal government actually has here.
