Mass Shooting in Alabama Leaves 4 Dead, 18 Wounded

This weekend, tragedy struck in Birmingham, AL.

Late Saturday nights, shots rang out in what is believed to have been multiple shooters, killing four people and wounding at least 18 more.

Police are stumped, now asking federal authorities for help.

Brutal Scene

The scene of the attack was a popular nightlife spot on the 2000 block of Magnolia in the Five Points South area.

This is very close to the University of Alabama at Birmingham campus and a very popular nightlife area.

Police stated that they responded to shots fired calls that came in around 11:00 p.m.

Local police stated, "Detectives believe the shooting was not random and stemmed from an isolated incident where multiple victims were caught in the crossfire.”

Two men and two women were reportedly killed in what police believe involved multiple shooters.

Eight people were transported to local hospitals for care, some with life-threatening injuries, so this body count could rise when all is said and done.

Officer Truman Fitzgerald stated, "Rest assured, we are going to do everything we possibly can to uncover, identify and hunt down whoever was responsible for preying on our people”

According to reports, local authorities have asked the FBI and ATF for support on the investigation.

This area is packed on Saturday nights, even more so when Alabama is playing at home, so this is not a good sign for the rest of the year on college campuses.

Some big games are coming up, with Alabama playing Georgia, then Georgia playing at Texas in October.

We can only hope this was an isolated incident and not something we are going to see more of as the school and football season progresses.

Authorities reportedly have minimal leads in this case, and the local police are asking anyone with any information about the shooting to contact police with the details.
