Trump provides VP pick update

Former President Donald Trump just provided an update about when he plans to announce the candidate whom he will pick to be his running mate in this year's presidential election.

Trump provided the update on Wednesday, during an interview with Fox 6 Milwaukee. The interview can be found here.

What the former president said is that he does not plan on announcing his pick for the vice presidency until after the upcoming Republican convention.

"I’ll be picking, but probably not too much before the convention, which I happen to be having in the great state of Wisconsin," Trump said.

The waiting game continues

The New York Post reports, "The Republican National Convention will be held in Milwaukee July 15-18."

In other words, it looks as though we still have a couple of months before we get to find out who Trump is going to choose.

The Post further reports, "In 2016, Trump picked then-Indiana Gov. Mike Pence as his running mate in the final week before the convention, lending credence to the suggestion he will follow a similar timeline this time."

Talk about who Trump's running mate is going to be has been rampant for months now, ever since it became clear that Trump was going to be the Republican Party's presidential nominee.

To be clear, Trump, at this point, is still only the presumptive nominee. But, something crazy would have to happen for him not to represent the Republican Party in the upcoming presidential election.

Who is it going to be?

The simple answer is that no one, perhaps other than Trump and some of his advisors, really knows. A large list of candidates has been reported by the mainstream media, ranging from North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum (R) to South Carolina Gov. Kristi Noem (R) to U.S. Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) to U.S. Sen. JD Vance (R-OH) to many others.

Trump has not really dropped any hints about who it may be. He has said good things about most of these candidates.

It would appear that Trump, with his vice president pick, can go in one of two directions.

First, he could pick a staunch supporter who has championed his policies. Second, he could choose a more moderate candidate in the hope of attracting centrist voters who otherwise might not vote for Trump.

We still have a couple of months to go before we will find out which direction Trump will choose.
