GOP Rep. Mast calls out Pelosi and other House Dems for letter urging Biden to halt U.S. weapons sales to Israel

A group of House Democrats, including former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), urged President Joe Biden earlier this month to halt all future weapons transfers to Israel following a tragic mistaken airstrike by Israeli forces that killed a half-dozen international aid workers in Gaza.

Yet, following a thwarted Iranian attack on Israel over the weekend, Rep. Brian Mast slammed Pelosi and her leftist comrades for their effort to deny the embattled Jewish nation the arms it needs to guarantee its survival, according to the Ultimate Newswire.

Mast argued that Israel, without the defensive capabilities provided by U.S. weapons systems, including advanced fighter jets, would be left vulnerable to future attacks if Pelosi and the other Democrats had their way.

U.S. and U.S.-made weapons succeed in thwarting Iranian attack on Israel

On Saturday, according to The Intercept, Iran launched more than 300 armed drones, cruise missiles, and ballistic missiles from its own territory toward Israel, though exceptionally few of those weapons reached their intended targets.

That is because about half of the drones and missiles were intercepted by a U.S.-led coalition of fighter jets and anti-missile defense systems -- which included the U.K., France, Jordan, and potentially other regional allies -- with nearly all of the remainder being shot down by Israeli jets and missile defense systems.

That Iranian attack on Israel came less than two weeks after NBC News reported that a group of mostly progressive House Democrats, including members of the leftist "Squad" and former Speaker Pelosi, sent a letter to President Biden to request an immediate halt to any pending weapons transfers to Israel.

The letter stated, in part, "In light of the recent strike against aid workers and the ever-worsening humanitarian crisis, we believe it is unjustifiable to approve these weapons transfers," and called upon Biden to impose certain restrictions on Israel as a contingency for further military aid.

"We strongly urge you to reconsider your recent decision to authorize the transfer of a new arms package to Israel, and to withhold this and any future offensive arms transfers until a full investigation into the airstrike is completed," the Democrats added.

Mast calls out Pelosi and other Dems for seeking to "abandon Israel" amid a war

In an exclusive statement to the Daily Caller after the failed Iranian attack on Israel, Rep. Mast said, "Just last week, Pelosi and the Squad demanded Joe Biden stop transferring 'offensive weapons' to Israel. This was akin to them calling for the U.S. to abandon Israel in the middle of a war."

Israel, of course, has been embroiled for months now in a devastating conflict in Gaza against Hamas -- not to mention occasional attacks from Iranian proxies like Hezbollah in Lebanon and militia groups in Syria -- following the Palestinian terrorist organization's horrific wave of murderous assaults and kidnappings in Israel on Oct. 7 last year.

"Can you imagine how much more devastating Iran’s attack would have been if Israel didn’t have American-made fighter jets to shoot down some of these missiles?" the Florida congressman added.

Separately, Mast seemed to echo that sentiment during a Sunday appearance on Newsmax, during which he highlighted the success of Israel's extensive air defense systems against the Iranian attack and noted, "By the way, there were 40 House Democrats, Nancy Pelosi being one of them, that wrote a letter last week saying no more arms transfers to Israel -- that would mean not restocking those things."

Pending arms sales to Israel that House Democrats object to

What the House Democrats were objecting to in their letter, according to a March report from The Washington Post, was the pending sale to Israel of numerous U.S.-made weapons and ammunition, including 25 F-35A fighter jets and more than 2,000 bombs of various size and weight.

Concerns were also expressed, per the Daily Caller, about another separate arms sale to Israel that would include dozens of F-15 fighter jets, dozens of air-to-air missiles, and an undisclosed number of bombs to help replenish Israel's arsenal following months of intense fighting in Gaza.
