Eleanor Coppola Dead At Age 87

Movie-legend Eleanor Coppola has died.

Coppola was 87 years old.

Who was Eleanor Coppola?

Many have not heard of Coppola, despite her impressive list of accomplishments.

Coppola was the wife of world-famous film producer and director Francis Ford Coppola.

She was there on set for nearly all the filming of the 1976 hit, Apocalypse Now.

She took enough notes on the film and was able successfully document the creation process so well that she produced a film of her own; a documentary called Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker’s Apocalypse.

Her documentary won multiple awards.

In 1991, Coppola sat down with CNN to discuss the documentary that was still being talked about more than 20 years after it was created.

“I was just trying to keep myself occupied with something to do because we were out there for so long. They wanted five minutes for a TV promotional or something and I thought sooner of later I could get five minutes of film and then it went on to 15 minutes,” Coppola said in the interview.

While recording and documenting her husband’s film, she was able to capture over 60 HOURS of footage!

"I just kept shooting but I had no idea ... the evolution of myself that I saw with my camera. So, it was a surprise for both of us and a life changing experience,” Coppola said on how many hours she documented.

Perhaps the thing Coppola was most proud of in life, though, was her family and two children Roman and Sofia.

Both became involved in the film industry just like their parents.

Coppola was an encouraging mother, always helping her children be the truest version of themselves.

She gave a 2017 interview to the Associated Press in which she said, “I don’t know what the family has given except I hope they’ve set an example of a family encouraging each other in their creative process whatever it may be.”

There are not many that get to say they accomplished so much and lived such a wonderful, long life.

We pray for anyone grieving the loss of the incredible person that was Eleanor Coppola.
