Wrestling Legend Sid Vicious Dead at 63
The wrestling world has been top of mind since “The Iron Claw” came out in 2023.
The movie is a biographical sports drama about the Von Erichs starring Zac Efron.
There are scenes in the movie that broke the hearts of wrestling fans, and that heartbreak continues with the death of yet another great in the sport… Sid Vicious.
Another One Gone
Sid Vicious suffered one of the most horrifying injuries I have ever seen on TV, but that is not what took him.
He has been battling cancer for years, and his body finally succumbed.
His son, Gunnar Eudy, announced the death on social media, stating, “He was a man of strength, kindness, and love, and his presence will be greatly missed."
Sid Vicious had many names during his career, such as Lord Humungous, Vicious Warrior, Sid Justice, and Sycho Sid, but the Vicious tag is the one that most fans remember Sid for.
His career started in 1987 in Continental Championship Wrestling (CCW) as Lord Humongous, a masked character
He paid his dues in various leagues, including having wrestled in Japan.
In 1988, he joined the NWA, where he met his first real misfortune, suffering a broken rib and a punctured lung in a match against the Steiner Brothers.
After he recovered, he got a massive break by being asked to join Ric Flair’s Four Horseman.
Sid’s run in the NWA and WCW did not last long, however, as he wound up joining the WWF in 1991, but that also did not last long, with Sid returning to the WCW in 1993. He then went to the USWA, back to the WWF, and he continued to bounce back and forth between various leagues until the WCW was bought by the WWF in 2001.
During that time of his career, he suffered one of the worst leg breaks I have ever seen on live television.
He would leave wrestling for a short spell, only to return again in 2004 with an independent circuit. He returned to the WWE (formerly the WWF) in 2012, where he remained until he retired.
Sid went out on a positive note, though, defeating Paul Rosenberg in Ottawa, Ontario for Great North Wrestling.
Rest in peace, Sid.
