The GOP House is a complete and utter mess right now.
Within 24 hours of having won the nomination for House Speaker, Rep. Scalise (R-LA) pulled his name from consideration.
The decision was made after Scalise was unable to have any of Jordan’s supporters change their mind on supporting him.
Scalise took the high road on his way out the door, and I would expect nothing less.
He stated, “It’s been quite a journey. And there’s still a long way to go. I just shared with my colleagues that I’m withdrawing my name as a candidate for the speaker designee.
“This country is counting on us to come back together. This House of Representatives needs a Speaker and we need to open up the House again. But clearly, not everybody is there. And there’s still schisms that have to get resolved.”
“There’s some folks that really need to look in the mirror over the next couple of days and decide, are we going to get it back on track or are they going to try to pursue their own agenda. You can’t do both.”
I completely screwed the pooch on analyzing this one, as I thought for sure that either Scalise or Jordan would get the full support of the caucus.
Little did I know that people who have lauded Scalise as a hero in public called him a RINO establishment swamp member behind his back.
Scalise, if you recall, had been shot during a congressional baseball game and more recently has been battling blood cancer.
Scalise apparently became enemy number one because he has yet to endorse Trump’s current run for president, even though he supported Trump in his previous runs and defended Trump profusely when Trump was in office.
Trump more or less sank Scalise by questioning if he was healthy enough to carry out the duties of Speaker.
Trump had stated, “I mean, he’s got to get better for himself. I’m not talking about even country now. I’m saying got to get better. And this is tremendous stress. All of the things that you hear about, and things that you don’t want to get involved in from the standpoint of getting well.”
In terms of MAGA supporting him, that was all they needed to hear.
