White House Will Refuse Oversight Request from GOP

GOP House members were hoping to get a jump on things.

Several members of the caucus that will be elevated to committee chairs once the new session begins had sent requests for oversight.

Those requests are going to be denied.

We Say No

If Biden had nothing to hide, why would he refuse these requests?

The reason the administration is giving now is that the GOP is not running the House yet, so it has no authority on this front.

White House Special Counsel Richard Sauber stated, “Congress has not delegated such [oversight] authority to individual members of Congress who are not committee chairmen, and the House has not done so under its current Rules.”

The question now remains if the administration will adhere to requests made in the next session when the GOP is in charge.

Sauber left that one hanging up the air with his response.

He stated, "Should the Committee issue similar or other requests in the 118th Congress, we will review and respond to them in good faith, consistent with the needs and obligations of both branches.

“We expect the new Congress will undertake its oversight responsibilities in the same spirit of good faith.”

The letter to the White House and the response by Sauber were leaked to Politico.

So, naturally, the GOP accused Politico of acting as an agent of the administration…

The account further posted, “This was clearly a planned and coordinated effort between the White House and ‘journalists’ at Politico.

“And it just shows how the media and White House will work hand-in-hand politically to obstruct legitimate constitutional oversight.”

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), who will be elevated to chair in the next session, stated, “Big Media and Big Government are already working together to block legitimate congressional oversight. What are they afraid of?”

That is a great question, Mr. Jordan, hopefully one you will be able to find an answer to come January.
