White House looking to sell Nancy Pelosi Federal Building in San Francisco

According to recent reports, President Donald Trump may soon be selling two well-known federal buildings in San Francisco, California.

One of those buildings is the Nancy Pelosi Federal Building.

The Trump administration said the reason behind the sale is simple – to save money.

They would save money by avoiding maintenance costs via leasing office space for federal employees.

Some democrats like former Congresswoman Jackie Speier are not convinced of the Trump administration’s reasoning.

According to Speier, Trump’s reasoning is also simple – to get payback.

“It's another example of how he is coming after Democrats. He's coming after California, and it's all about payback,” she said.

“The lease will keep going up and you will end up paying the property taxes of the lessor, whereas you don't pay federal taxes when you are a federal government,” Speier continued.

Trump's recent order also targets the Presidio Trust.

The Presidio Trust was set up in 1996 and helps manage the 1,500-acre Presidio Park in San Francisco.

Trump has deemed the trust unnecessary and one of the things that must go in the budget cuts he has been making throughout the government.

Naturally, Nancy Pelosi’s office has released a statement on Trump’s order.

“The Presidio Trust is statutory, and it has been protected from assaults over time by its statutory strength. We will be carefully reviewing the language of the President's executive order and its purpose,” her office said.

Former Presidio trustee Marie Hurabiell believes the order from Trump is just a “fact-finding effort.”

However, many San Francisco residents are not happy with the news of their park funding potentially being cut, including resident Jeff Daniel.

“I think that's shameful. We need more park space in this city," said San Francisco resident Jeff Daniel. "This has wonderful resources for folks who live here, folks who work here, for visitors, for tourists. It brings a lot of tourists and tourist dollars to the city as well,” Daniel said.
