White House Asserts Executive Privilege Over Audio Recording of Biden Special Counsel Interview

The White House has exerted executive privilege over audio tapes of an interview between President Joe Biden and Special Counsel Robert Hur.

The administration was asked to assert the privilege over the recordings at the request of Attorney General Merrick Garland, as Fox News reports.

Garland is actually facing contempt of Congress charges over his refusal to turn over the tapes that have been subpoenaed by House Republicans.

During a media briefing, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said it was Garland's suggestion that "law enforcement files like these need to be protected."

This is despite the fact that the transcripts of the interview have already been released. The real reason that the interview tapes are being hidden by the White House is because it's suspected that the audio tapes will demonstrate Hur's claims of Biden being feeble and slow.

Hur Investigation

Robert Hur's investigation created a firestorm after it was announced that he would not recommend charges against President Biden for mishandling classified documents.

Biden was in possession of countless documents stretching back to his days as vice president under former President Barack Obama. After former President Donald Trump was charged with mishandling documents from his time as president, many expected Biden to face similar charges.

But Hur declined to call for charges against Biden due to his assessment that Biden was too elderly and frail to be prosecuted.

This ignited outrage from conservatives who wanted all the information from Hur's investigation. The transcripts of the interview were released, which to many meant that the logical next step was for the audios to be released.

The White House's decision to exert executive privilege over the recordings immediately led to a deluge of criticism.

Storm of Criticism

John Malcolm, a former federal prosecutor, told Fox News that "The only conceivable reason why President Biden would want to prevent the recordings from being disclosed is because he is worried about the public will react to his demeanor and recall when answering Special Counsel Hur’s questions, especially since serious questions have already been raised about his mental acuity and his ability to serve effectively as our president."

Hur's statement that Biden was an "elderly man with a poor memory," demonstrates exactly why the White House wants the tapes hidden.

If the tapes are released to the public, they would prove that everyone who is concerned about President Biden's age is in the right.

It is clear as day that Biden is too old to serve another term, and his mental faculties have been on the decline since 2019.
