What Went Wrong with South Korean Flight JJA2216

Last week, the world was horrified by a report of a South Korean airliner that landed and crashed into a barrier wall.

As of last report, 179 people died in the crash, with only two crew members surviving the flight.

Reports are now being released detailing the final moments of the plane.

What Happened?

There has been a lot of speculation about what happened to the flight, especially because the plane landed without its gear being down.

As you can see in the video below, the plane was traveling at excess speed, not to mention the gear not being down, and it could not stop before hitting the barrier wall…

The plane took off from Thailand just before 4:30 a.m. local time.

Just prior to 9:00 a.m. local time, the plane started its approach to Muan International Airport.

At 8:57 a.m. local time, there was a report of a “bird strike” on the plane.

Two minutes later, the pilot issued a mayday call. One minute later, it was noticed that the plane could not operate its landing gear.

At 9:01 a.m. local time, a passenger on the plane sent a text saying that a bird strike had hit the plane, asking if they should “make a will.”

At 9:02 a.m. local time, the pilot says they will attempt a belly landing. One minute later, the plane touched down on the runway, but as noted above, the plane was moving so fast that it was unable to stop before hitting the barrier wall.

It took roughly 40 minutes for the fire to be extinguished and nearly 12 hours to locate all the dead bodies.

There were only two survivors of the crash, which were two crew members in the tail section of the plane.

Both black boxes of the plane have been located and will obviously be part of the investigation to find out what happened here.

One of the biggest questions that will have to be answered is why there were not more precautions taken on the ground, given that the plane was unable to use its landing gear.

To the families of the deceased, you have our condolences on this horrific tragedy.
