Voters overwhelmingly link Harris to Biden's agenda as other indicators point to bad news for Democrats on Election Day
A new poll suggests that a considerable share of likely voters associate Vice President Kamala Harris with President Joe Biden's agenda, Breitbart reported in an exclusive. Harris became the presumptive Democratic nominee after Biden stepped down from his reelection bid last week.
A survey taken by the Senate Opportunity Fund between July 22 and July 24 asked 800 likely voters questions about the candidate swap. The results are not good for Democrats.
The results showed that people overwhelmingly blamed Harris for what went wrong in the Biden presidency. They also see a vote for Harris as a continuation of those terrible policies.
Voters are also upset about the swap, which seemed to be done only to secure Biden's legacy. Most troubling for Democrats is that voters don't care about the issues they have decided to stake their platform on in 2024.
By The Numbers
The respondents, who were pared down to 511 people from "contested states," were asked whether they agreed or disagreed with several questions. When asked whether "Kamala Harris’ record is the Biden Administration’s record over the last 4 years," 68% said they agreed with that statement.
On the other hand, only 19% said they disagreed, with 13% remaining neutral or saying they didn't know. When asked another way, Harris similarly fared poorly.
When asked, "In terms of policy, Kamala Harris is no different than Joe Biden," 66% said they agreed, while only 27% responded that they disagreed. However, the real harbinger of doom comes from ranking the importance of issues.
The Biden campaign was heavily focused on the nebulous "democracy" issue, whereas Harris will likely take up the mantle of abortion rights. Both issues are low on the list of priorities for voters. Abortion is only the sixth-highest-rated issue, while "democracy" is the seventh.
What voters are most worried about are the issues at the top of the opposing GOP ticket. Americans are concerned about "inflation, the economy & jobs, immigration, national security, and crime & drugs," which are weak for Harris but strongest for former President Donald Trump and running mate Sen. J.D. Vance of Ohio.
Her Biggest Obstacle
Regardless of the issues on Election Day, Harris' biggest hurdle will be her unlikeability. As vice president, she has suffered from abysmal approval ratings.
Even with her as the presumptive nominee now, only 43% of respondents see Harris favorably, as opposed to 51% who see her unfavorably. The breakdown of the negative opinion shows that 39% view her as very unfavorably, and 11% see her unfavorably.
Americans also understand that the swap out of Biden for Harris, which Democrats and the media are championing, was a cynical move. When asked whether it was a "patriotic" or "political" decision, respondents answered 38% and 53%, respectively.
The process by which Harris became the presumptive nominee is also a point of contention. Only 41% believed Harris should have been handed the nomination, as opposed to 48% who believed it should have been an "open process."
The establishment wants to ignore the fact that Harris is unlikeable and is inextricably linked to Biden's terrible policies. However, it appears it won't be as easy to fool voters as they hoped.
