Vatican excommunicates Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano
Pope Francis has officially declared Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano excommunicated from his position after finding him guilty of a schism.
The doctrine from the Vatican wrote that Vigano’s “refusal to recognize and submit to the Supreme Pontiff, his rejection of communion with the members of the church subject to him, and of the legitimacy and magisterial authority of the Second Vatican Council.”
What does this mean for Vigano?
It means that the Vatican has officially cut ties with Vigano.
In the eyes of the Church, he is guilty of one of the most serious crimes you can commit – withdrawing submission to Pope Francis.
This comes because Vigano called for Pope Francis to step down over the pontiff's opinion on same-sex couples, climate change, and various other issues.
83-year-old Vigano has been part of the church for a very long time, but his opinion was received very poorly, nonetheless.
It did not take long for the Catholic Church to put Vigano in his place for criticizing Pope Francis.
While Vigano has previously issued a statement JUSTIFYING his actions before the excommunication occurred, he has yet to respond to Pope Francis’ decision to excommunicate him.
This is not the first time someone has been excommunicated from the Catholic Church and it surely will not be the last.
In fact, there are many huge historical names that were also excommunicated by the Catholic church including. Martin Luther, Napoleon, and Joan of Arc!
While Vigano is not as famous as any of those names, his name is now recorded on the same excommunication list.
As previously stated, Vigano has yet to break his silence on the Church’s decision and one can only guess what his next steps will be.
Do you agree with the Catholic Church’s decision to excommunicate Vigano from the church?
