Vance Confirms Trump Would Not Support National Abortion Ban

Every time a microphone gets stuck in the face of a Democrat, they say Trump would sign national abortion legislation.

For his part, Trump has consistently stated that he believes this is a state issue.

However, Trump has also voiced support for abortion legislation that would fall into the 15-20 week with exceptions, but is that considered a ban?

Won’t Do It

Vance made it quite clear where Trump stands when asked about his position on abortion over the weekend on “Meet the Press.”

Host Kristen Welker asked, "Democrats made the case this week, and beyond this week, that Donald Trump, if elected, will impose a federal ban on abortion if he wins. Now, Donald Trump says he won't.

“But can you commit, senator, sitting right here with me today, that if you and Donald Trump are elected, that you will not impose a federal ban on abortion?"

Vance responded, "I can absolutely commit to that, Kristen. Donald Trump has been as clear about that as possible.

“I think it's important to step back and say, ‘What has Donald Trump actually said on the abortion question, and how is it different from what Kamala Harris and the Democrats have said?’ Donald Trump wants to end this culture war over this particular topic."

"If… California wants to have a different abortion policy from Ohio, then Ohio has to respect California, and California has to respect Ohio. Donald Trump's view is that we want the individual states and their individual cultures and their unique political sensibilities to make these decisions, because we don't want to have a non-stop federal conflict over this issue.

“The federal government ought to be focused on getting food prices down, getting housing prices down. Issues, of course, where Kamala Harris has been a total disaster.”

Now, I would not consider 20-week abortion legislation with exceptions to be a ban, but I doubt the media would see it that way.

Trump really needs to define his absolute stance on this, including if he would sign legislation that allowed abortion through 15-20 weeks with exceptions or if he would veto that as well.

I know one thing… Republicans have to figure out a way to get this issue settled because if they don’t, they are going to keep losing elections because this has been the golden card for Democrats for much of the last two decades.
