TV Star Jack Hogan Dead at 94

A fan favorite when it came to action and war shows is now gone.

Jack Hogan, who is probably best known for “Combat!,” passed away on December 6 from natural causes.

His son, West, confirmed that his father died at his Washington home.

Long Career

Hogan popped on the scene in 1956 in an uncredited role, but it was clear where he would find his niche.

While he went from show to show, he played a lot of cops, soldiers, and Westerns during the early days of his career.

His first recurring role was in “Dr. Christian,” where he appeared in four episodes, then he bounced around for a bit, landing a short recurring role in “The Rough Riders,” “Have Gun – Will Travel,” “Men of Annapolis,” “Sea Hunt,” and “Tombstone Territory.”

Then came his big break in 1962, landing the role of Kirby in “Combat!,” a show that would run from 1962-67, with Hogan appearing in 111 episodes, by far the most successful run of his career.

When “Combat!” wrapped up, he went back to bouncing around from show to show until “Jake and the Fatman,” where he once again landed a recurring role, appearing in 12 episodes over two seasons.

His last credited role was as Professor Patrick Stucky in “Raven,” which aired in 1992-93.

In all, Hogan has 89 credits on his resume in a career that spanned more than three decades.

Hogan was born in North Carolina, where he also went to school at the University of North Carolina, leaving because he was bored and enlisting in the U.S. Navy.

After he was discharged, he decided he wanted to become an actor, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Hogan is survived by his wife, daughter, and son, as well as two grandchildren.
