Turley says AOC prosecution would violate free speech

Over the last few days, there has been a lot of talk about the webinar promoted by AOC.

As a sitting member of Congress, AOC posted a webinar on her social media pages to help illegal immigrants evade capture by ICE.

I have called it aiding and abetting, and Trump Border Czar Tom Homan has requested the DOJ look into the post, but constitutional expert Jonathan Turley believes prosecuting her for this would be a violation of her First Amendment rights.

Free Speech Rights

Homan was on Fox News earlier in the week when he noted that he wanted the DOJ to look into whether her post was an impediment to law enforcement.

Homan stated, “Is that impeding our law enforcement efforts? If so, what are we going to do about it? Is she crossing the line?

“So, I’m working with the Department of Justice and finding out. Where is that line that they cross? So, maybe AOC’s gonna be in trouble now.”

Turley responded, “Border Czar Tom Homan doubled down last night that Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) might be prosecuted for hosting a forum on ‘Know Your Rights’ for accused illegal aliens. Such a prosecution would be an assault on free speech rights.”

As most of you know, I very much respect Turley.

Although I don’t always agree with him, I generally defer to his opinion because the Constitution is his expertise.

Having said that, I would like a bit more of an explanation from him on this point due to the specific nature of this webinar and the standard that Democrats hold conservatives to on this front.

Does her post not encourage more illegal immigrants by giving them advice on how to get away with crime and that illegal immigration IS a crime?

And even though we have free speech in this country, there are sometimes repercussions for exercising that right, and should this not be such an instance?
