Trump's Treasury Secretary Confirmed
It took a little push by Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.), but Trump’s cabinet selections are finally starting to move through Congress a bit quicker.
This week, we had a flurry of confirmations, with the latest being Scott Bessent.
Bessent has been given the nod by Trump to serve as Treasury Secretary.
Get to Work
Once again, Trump had a fairly easy time of getting Bessent through committee.
Bessent passed through the Senate with a 69-29 vote.
When Trump nominated Bessent, he stated, “I am most pleased to nominate Scott Bessent to serve as the 79th Secretary of the Treasury of the United States.
“Scott is widely respected as one of the World’s foremost International Investors and Geopolitical and Economic Strategists. Scott’s story is that of the American Dream.”
Bessent did quite well during his hearing, not falling for several traps that were set by Democrats.
For instance, Senator Warren (D-MA) went after Bessent for the tax cuts that Trump made in 2017, which Bessent had discussed codifying.
Warren continues to insist that the tax cuts only helped the richest people in the country, but that is a twisting of the facts.
Bessent shut her down fairly quickly, which she, of course, did not appreciate.
Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) started ranting about oligarchs, as though the Democrat Party is not overridden with oligarchs.
Bessent shut his narrative down by talking about the two presidential medals of freedom that were given two “people who would qualify as oligarchs.”
Democrats want to pretend this is an issue on one side while George Soros has a bat phone to the White House when there is a Democrat in office.
And for the record, I am not comfortable with all these rich people coddling up to Trump, especially because we all know most of them are self-serving. We need to get back to having a government of the people and for the people, and by the people, something we have not had in decades.
