Trump will pause tariffs on Mexico after new agreement
Democrats keep whining that Donald Trump is going to destroy our trade agreements with Mexico and Canada with his threats of tariffs.
However, they continue to work.
The latest is Mexico caving to Trump’s demand to help lock down the border or face 25% tariffs.
The Caved
Trump never hid the fact that he was going to demand that Mexico and Canada do more to help the United States control the problem at the border.
After Trump made his initial threat, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum put on a tough front and pushed back against Trump.
It even got to the point that she threatened to hit the United States with tariffs.
This was all posturing, however, as we all know Mexico needs the United States, especially its tourist money, more than the United States needs Mexico.
Tariffs would crush Mexico because of the sheer volume of businesses, especially car manufacturers, who are doing business in Mexico but shipping their products to the United States.
Mexico eventually caved to Trump, agreeing to send 10,000 National Guard troops to the border to help lock it down.
After the agreement was made, Trump took a victory lap on Truth Social, stating, “I just spoke with President Claudia Sheinbaum of Mexico.
“It was a very friendly conversation wherein she agreed to immediately supply 10,000 Mexican Soldiers on the Border separating Mexico and the United States. These soldiers will be specifically designated to stop the flow of fentanyl, and illegal migrants into our Country.
“We further agreed to immediately pause the anticipated tariffs for one month during which we will have negotiations headed by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of Treasury Scott Bessent, Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick, and high-level Representatives of Mexico.
“I look forward to participating in those negotiations, with President Sheinbaum, as we attempt to achieve a “deal” between our two Countries.”
Unlike Trump’s prior post, there was no pushback from the Mexican president this time.
Mexican authorities are notoriously corrupt, with many of them in bed with the Cartel, especially from the Moreno Party, which is the party of Sheinbaum.
Point being, she has likely just crossed some of her financial backers, so it will be interesting to see how much longer she lasts in office.
