Trump Threatens to Take DC Away from Mayor

You know that Trump has hit full campaign mode when he starts talking about taking away cities from Democrat mayors.

Trump was speaking at an Iowa rally when he fired off this attack against D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser.

After calling the city a “graffiti-infested sh*thole,” Trump threatened to wrestle control of the city away from its Democrat mayor.

I’ll Take It

Trump is already facing accusations of being a dictator, so this rant will surely add more fuel to that fire.

Trump stated, “We are going to take it away from the mayor. That does not make me popular there, but I have to say it. We have to run our capital incredibly.

“We have to take the graffiti off those magnificent marble columns all over the city where they have swastikas printed on them, where they have the names of people who have hearts.

“People who are in love and they write a heart. We are going to clean up our capital, we are going to knock out the slums. We have slums. We are going to have the most beautiful capital in the world.”

Obviously, Trump cannot take the city away from the mayor, but his base loves this type of rhetoric, and it is what Trump does best.

With the Iowa caucus kicking off the primary election season on Monday, expect a lot more of this from Trump to try to energize his base, much in the way that he used the wall to rally voters in 2016.

The caucuses were just getting started when I was writing this report, but the final polling in Iowa had Trump in the lead with 52.7%, followed by Haley at 18.7%, and DeSantis in third at 15.8%.

DeSantis has spent more time in the state than either Haley or Trump, and his campaign believes the polling is faulty, with some even predicting a DeSantis win in the state.

If DeSantis does not perform well, the expectation is that he will suspend his campaign, as he has almost no presence in New Hampshire, and Haley’s home state of South Carolina is among the upcoming states where Haley is clearly expected to outperform DeSantis.
