Trump switches out the Oval Office's Resolute Desk

President Donald Trump has just swapped out the Oval Office's Resolute Desk.

This is according to a new report from the New York Post

The outlet notes that this is taking place under some unusual circumstances. The circumstances are that Trump is making this swap just days after Elon Musk's son appeared "to wipe a booger on it."

However, Trump, as we will see, says that the desk is being swapped out for another reason.

Background

You may have seen the recent Oval Office press conference, which feature both Trump and Musk.

Musk, of course, is playing a large role in relation to the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Although Musk, according to the White House, is not a member of DOGE, he is advising Trump with regard to DOGE's findings of waste, fraud, and abuse throughout the government.

He recently appeared in the Oval Office to defend himself against the Democrats' attacks, and Musk, as he often does, brought his son X along with him.

The Post reports:

At one point, the tot — whose mom is pop star Grimes — wiggled his finger around in his nostril and then seemingly wiped the resulting bounty on the famous desk, first used by John F. Kennedy in 1961 and later used by presidents including Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, and Joe Biden during their time in office.

The big question, of course, is whether this has anything to do with Trump's decision to swap the desk out.

The jury is out

Trump released a social media message explaining his decision to swap the Resolute Desk out.

He wrote:

A President, after election, gets a choice of 1 in 7 desks. This desk, the “C&O,” which is also very well-known and was used by President George H.W. Bush and others, has been temporarily installed in the White House while the Resolute Desk is being lightly refinished—a very important job. This is a beautiful, but temporary replacement!

Trump does not explain why the desk is "being lightly refinished." Perhaps, after years of use, it just seemed a bit beat up and needed to be refreshed, or perhaps Trump saw what Musk's son did.

The Post notes that Trump is a "known germophobe." Trump himself has spoken about this, although he has obviously found a way to deal with it considering that he is always shaking people's hands.

Neither Trump nor the White House, at the time of this writing, he directly address whether the actions of Musk's son have anything to do with the desk swap. So, for now, it is all just speculation.
