Trump Sues ABC and Stephanopoulos for Defamation

One would think that with all the legal troubles Donald Trump has right now, the last thing he would be doing is filing another lawsuit.

However, that is exactly what he just did.

Trump filed suit against ABC and George Stephanopoulos for defamation.

You Cannot Say That

The case centers around comments made during a March 10 interview with Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.).

Mace, a rape survivor, was getting hit by Stephanopoulos for having endorsed Donald Trump.

Stephanopoulos questioned how she could endorse Trump after he lost his case against E. Jean Carroll.

Trump had been found liable for sexual abuse and defamation, but not “rape.”

In the interview, Stephanopoulos claimed that Trump had been found “liable for rape.”

Stephanopoulos stated, “Judges and two separate juries have found him liable for rape and for defaming the victim of that rape. How do you square your endorsement of Donald Trump with the testimony we just saw.”

Trump's suit states, “These statements were and remain false, and were made by Defendant Stephanopoulos with actual malice or with a reckless disregard for the truth given that Defendant Stephanopoulos knows that these statements are patently and demonstrably false.

“Indeed, the jury expressly found that Plaintiff did not commit rape and, as demonstrated below, Defendant George Stephanopoulos was aware of the jury’s finding in this regard yet still falsely stated otherwise.”

Trump will likely lose this case, with it likely being tossed before he ever gets inside a courtroom.

I say this because, during the trial, Judge Kaplan covered this exact subject, stating, “The difference between Ms. Carroll’s allegedly defamatory statements — that Mr. Trump ‘raped’ her as defined in the New York Penal Law — and the ‘truth’ — that Mr. Trump forcibly digitally penetrated Ms. Carroll — is minimal. Both are felonious sex crimes.”

And let’s face facts… Donald Trump has not exactly drawn friendly judges, and I am not expecting one here even though the case was filed in Florida.

I think Trump could actually do more harm than good by challenging the verbiage here because if he loses this case, every news outlet in the country will be calling him a rapist.
