Trump has formally announced his official decision about whether or not he's going to participate in the first Republican primary debate, scheduled to take place on Fox News.
Absolutely not.
Instead, Donald Trump is going to give an interview to Tucker Carlson on Twitter at the same time the Republican debate is happening.
I wonder which one will get more views.
Trump has been claiming for weeks that he just may skip the Republican debates, citing his massive lead over the rest of the field as the primary reason for why he feels no pressure to attend.
In addition to Trump's lead being a reason not to participate, the former president also has an issue with the pledge he would be forced to sign before appearing on stage.
The GOP pledge states that whoever signs it must be willing to support the Republican nominee for America's presidency regardless of whether the candidate is happy with the person nominated or not.
This is why we saw people like Ted Cruz and Rand Paul come out and support Donald Trump at certain points after Trump had treated them horribly during the runup to the election.
Trump is leading the next closest person on the Republican side by about 40 points, depending on which poll you're looking at.
Some of those polls still have Ron DeSantis clinging to second place, while others show Vivek Ramaswamy as the second most popular Republican vying for the presidency.
Regardless of who's in second place though, it's never been a question of who's been in first.
Donald Trump has held the top spot for a while and will probably continue to be for the foreseeable future, UNLESS he makes a big mistake.
By taking himself out of the debate, he's reducing the potential for mistakes.
With a lead this size, that's probably all he has to do.
