Trump Sentencing Will Go as Scheduled: Supreme Court
Donald Trump is not going to be happy with the Supreme Court.
An effort to delay Trump’s sentencing until after the 2024 election takes place has been thwarted.
The court released its decision on the matter this week, denying a motion started by Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey.
We Are Moving Forward
Bailey filed the motion, and he had to know it had very little chance of success.
The fact of the matter is that he really did not have standing to file this motion.
He has no direct connection to Trump in this case and is not a member of Trump’s legal team.
To me, this was more of a political stunt to get Trump’s attention and hopefully land a spot in Trump’s administration if he wins the election.
New York Attorney General Letitia James responded, “Missouri’s suit is based entirely on an ongoing criminal case between the Manhattan DA and former President Trump and does not present an actual controversy between sovereign States.
“Moreover, former President Trump has already raised, and the New York state courts are already adjudicating, the same issues Missouri seeks to raise, and Missouri’s claims are patently meritless.”
The sentencing is currently set for September 18 and barring any setbacks, that is when Trump will learn his fate.
Mind you, the appeals process is far from being over, as Trump will appeal this all the way to the Supreme Court if he has to in order to get some relief.
I have always believed that while I thought Trump would lose the initial hush-money case, I also thought that he would either win or have the penalty or sentence significantly reduced on appeal.
In terms of jail time, I just don’t see the judge being so bold to sentence Trump to jail as a first-time offender as well as this being a crime that is usually nothing more than a fine and wooden ruler across the knuckles.
