Trump Sentencing Delayed After Immunity Ruling

The trickle-down effect of the presidential immunity ruling by the Supreme Court continues.

After the decision came down, Trump’s attorneys immediately went to work filing motions.

One of which was to have the sentencing hearing delayed in the hush-money case and shockingly, it was granted.

File Those Appeals

The amount of disinformation and rhetoric regarding that decision, as I stated in some of yesterday’s reports, is staggering.

To that very point, there is a lot of buzz that the ruling will be set aside in the hush-money case, but that is not going to happen.

Trump’s attorneys filed a motion on that front, but the hush money was paid before Trump was president.

Additionally, there is no way the courts would find that paying hush money was part of the president’s duties, so don’t get too excited about all the nonsense being posted on social media over the last few days on this front.

On a different note, Trump did get his sentencing hearing delayed until September.

The motion was filed, and Bragg’s office did not push back, so Judge Merchan ruled that the original hearing date would be vacated and a new hearing date set.

He ruled, "The July 11, 2024, sentencing date is therefore vacated. The Court’s decision will be rendered off-calendar on September 6, 2024, and the matter is adjourned to September 18, 2024, at 10:00 AM for the imposition of sentence, if such is still necessary, or other proceedings.”

This is still a big win for Trump for stress relief alone.

Now Trump no longer has to worry about being sentenced to jail or house arrest before the Republican National Convention.

It will also give him more time to have his appeal motion decided upon. Hopefully, if the appeal is granted, which it will be, Merchan will postpone sentencing until after the appeals process has played out. Or, at the very least, not enforce the sentence until after the appeals have been exhausted.

Since this was a non-violent crime and a first offender, that should be the case.
