Trump scored major win just before Biden dropped out

Former President Donald Trump scored a huge win just before President Joe Biden decided to drop out of the race for the presidency.

According to the Washington Examiner"President Joe Biden’s blue wall of states that gave him his 2020 victory has crumbled under the weight of voter support for former President Donald Trump, threatening his reelection."

This is a massive reversal of fortune.

One has to wonder whether polls such as this one played a role in Biden's decision to call its quits - or, to state the matter more accurately, Democratic Party leaders' decision to force Biden out.

The numbers

What the Examiner is referring to is a new poll from Rasmussen Reports and the Heartland Insitute. The poll can be found here.

"In five of the six states considered 'battlegrounds' in this year’s presidential election, former President Donald Trump now leads President Joe Biden," Rasmussen reports.

It continues:

A new telephone and online survey of Likely Voters in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin . . . finds that in a two-way contest between Trump and Biden, Trump leads in all but one – Michigan – where the race is now tied at 46% for each candidate. This survey was taken before last weekend’s assassination attempt against Trump at a Pennsylvania rally.

Rasmussen goes on to note that "Biden won all six of these battleground states in 2020." This is what propelled Biden to victory. But, now, the tides have turned.

Rasmussen reports:

In the two-way matchup with Biden, Trump currently enjoys his widest lead, 50% to 41%, in Arizona. Trump leads by five points over Biden in both Georgia (48% to 43%) and Nevada (50% to 45%), is three points ahead in Pennsylvania (47% to 44%) and leads by two points in Wisconsin (48% to 46%).

Things seem to be going Trump's way

Given that Biden has now dropped out of the race, one could question the relevance of such polls as Rasmussen. There will have to be new polls between Trump and whomever the Democrats choose to be their 2024 candidate.

Rasmussen's poll, however, is not the only good news that Trump received over the weekend.

According to Newsmax, another poll has Trump's favorability rating at a four-year high.

The poll, from ABC News and Ipsos, shows Trump's favorability going up nine percentage points in less than two months. That is another major reversal in Trump's favor.

Polls, of course, always have to be taken with a grain of salt. But, it would seem to be safe to conclude that the momentum seems to be in Trump's favor.
