Trump Reportedly Favorites Ben Carson for VP

I have to tell you, I was just about knocked off my feet last week when I read reports that Dr. Ben Carson, Donald Trump’s former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development was reportedly at the top of Trump’s list for VPs.

Up to this point, Carson has not even been on my radar, but it would appear that Trump had been doing his homework on this one.

Most, including myself, believe that Trump’s VP will be either a woman or a man of color, two demographics where Trump hopes to steal votes from the Democrats, but I was not even considering Carson on that list.

Why Carson?

So, that is the obvious question, right? Especially when you have Senator Tim Scott (R-S.C.), a far more polished politician, waiting in the wings and already out of the race.

As far as Scott is concerned, Trump may be hesitant because Scott has already stated that he has not even considered being the VP.

While still in the race, he had stated, “Being vice president has never been on my to-do list for this campaign, and it’s certainly not there now.”

Notice he did not say, “No,” however.

There is a rather significant school of thought that South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem, who has been openly plying for the job, would be Trump’s VP pick.

If Trump does decide to go with a woman, she would clearly be at the top of the list right now.

But that brings us back to Carson, with reports that broke last week saying Trump has him atop his list, noting how much he liked working with Carson during the 2016 administration.

Believe it or not, Carson is a crowd favorite, at least if we go back to the 2016 election cycle, where polls had Carson atop the public’s preferred candidates for VP.

Now, the polling numbers for Trump among black voters go up significantly if he has a black VP, so I am starting to think that Trump dug up those old numbers and he is hoping to make a splash with Carson.

Here is my question… if Trump gets elected and something happens where he cannot finish his term, who would you feel more comfortable with sitting in the Oval Office, Ben Carson or Tim Scott?

That is a very real question voters will be asking themselves before they pull the handle in 2024, as this could become more a race of VPs than of the actual candidate at the top of the ballot.
