Trump floats idea of dismantling FEMA ahead of CA wildfire visit
President Donald Trump has announced his new plans to take action to address failures of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
Trump says he will either overhaul FEMA or even TRASH it altogether.
“I think we’re going to recommend that FEMA go away,” Trump explained during an interview in Asheville, North Carolina.
Asheville, North Carolina was the same town that was largely destroyed by Hurricane back in September of 2024.
“We’re looking at the whole concept of FEMA,” Trump explained.
“I like, frankly, the concept [that] when North Carolina gets hit, the governor takes care of it. When Florida gets hit, the governor takes care of it, meaning the state takes care of it. To have a group of people come in from an area that don’t even know where they’re going, in order to solve immediately a problem is something that never worked for me,” Trump said.
“So rather than going through FEMA, it will go through us,” Trump continued.
“We’re going to get you the resources you need and the support you deserve,” Trump also said to the people of Asheville.
The treatment of Americans affected by disasters has been one of the early focal points of Trump's presidency.
Trump has been campaigning for the people impacted by the hurricanes on the East Coast and wildfires on the West Coast, and against the corrupt insurance companies and government agencies hindering the recovery process.
Shortly after speaking in North Carolina, Donald Trump traveled to California to inspect the damage caused by the horrific wildfires in California.
Speaking about the wildfires, Donald Trump said he would be willing to provide federal aid to Los Angeles, but only if California was willing to overhaul its voter ID requirements in order to make elections more secure.
"In California, I have a condition: in California, we want them to have voter ID so the people have a voice because right now, the people don’t have a voice because you don’t know who’s voting, and it’s very corrupt," Trump said. "And we also want them to release the water. If they release the water, they wouldn’t have a problem."
