Trump Pulls Secret Service Protection of Pompeo, Others

When the threats of Iran against Trump and some of his former officials were made public, Republicans pressured Joe Biden to provide Secret Service protection for all of them.

As we all know, the Secret Service has been stretched very thin recently, but they are about to get a considerable number of agents back.

This is because Donald Trump has just canceled the Secret Service protection for former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, as well as other officials who had been assigned protection during the Biden administration.

Wrap It Up

Trump was very matter-of-fact about pulling the protection of the former officials, stating, “When you have protection, you can’t have it for the rest of your life.

“Do you want to have a large detail of people guarding people for the rest of their lives? I mean, there’s risks to everything.”

Trump later added, “I think there was enough time. We take a job, you take a job, you want to do a job, we’re not going to have security on people for the rest of their lives. Why should we?”

I understand his point, but this threat is still active, and these are all former officials who served under his administration.

The problem, however, is that Pompeo and other Trump officials being covered are not exactly on Trump’s friend’s list these days.

Pompeo, for instance, ripped Trump over the mishandling of classified documents and for “staring in the rearview mirror claiming victimhood.”

Former adviser Brian Hook and former National Security Adviser John Bolton also lost their protection. I cannot speak about Hook, but I know Trump and Bolton are on the outs.

Trump and these officials have been targeted by Iran after the strike against General Soleimani was ordered during Trump’s first administration.

I just hope this threat never comes to fruition because if any of these individuals are assassinated during Trump’s watch, it will be an absolute disaster for this administration and Republicans.
