Trump Pitches Abortion Compromise to Steal Democrat Thunder

Donald Trump knows that Democrats are going to make abortion the number one issue in this election.

To that point, he is trying to steal some of their thunder.

While doing an interview this weekend, Trump proposed legislation that is a “compromise,” which is a dirty word in politics these days.

Let’s Make a Deal

Abortion has been an election issue for decades in this country, but it really became top of mind after Roe v. Wade was overturned and abortion was turned over to the states.

With several red states outright banning abortion and others locking in short windows, such as six weeks, Democrats have won the 2020, 2022, and 2023 election cycles on this issue.

They are not hiding the fact they will make it an issue again in this election, with Kamala Harris actually visiting an abortion clinic, the first VP in the history of this country to do so.

During her appearance, she sold abortion as a reproductive health care, which it is not.

She stated, "In states around our country, extremists have proposed and passed laws that have denied women access to reproductive health care, and the stories abound.

"It is only right and fair that people have access to the health care they need and that they have access to health care in an environment where they are treated with dignity and respect."

This is an elective procedure to take the life of an unborn child, so let’s not hide it behind actual health care.

Trump knows this will be a problem for the GOP in 2024, so he is hoping to pitch a solution that will give both sides a win.

Trump suggested a 16-week abortion ban with exceptions for rape, incest, and the health of the mother.

He added, "Pretty soon, I'm going to be making a decision. And I would like to see if we could do that at all. I would like to see if we could make both sides happy.”

The problem is that you would need Democrats to come to the table, and that will never happen.

Even if they did, it would likely be a minimum of 20 weeks, but I think the GOP could live with that if it meant getting legislation that would end this issue once and for all.

Abortion is like reparations for Democrats, though.

It is a hot topic that works great in elections that they never really want to address because they lose that carrot on the stick to lure in Democrat voters.

It’s a nice thought, Mr. Trump, but Dems will never agree to anything but a woman’s right to have an abortion right up through the delivery of the child.

The one positive of Trump announcing this, however, is that Biden and company will have to change their narrative about Trump being an abortion extremist, as they have been saying to this point.
