Trump Open to Musk Purchasing TikTok, Announces $500 Billion Stargate Project

Donald Trump is embracing AI in a big way.

Trump dropped two big announcements on Tuesday, January 21, 2025.

He announced that he would be open to Elon Musk purchasing TikTok, albeit not his first option, and a massive $500 billion private sector investment in AI technology.

Big News

Rather than continue the fight between TikTok and the United States, Trump wants the app to become a partner.

When Trump was asked if he would approve of Musk buying TikTok, he stated, "I would be, yeah. I met with owners of TikTok, the big owners, it's worthless if it doesn't get a permit.

“It's not like you can take the US. The whole thing is worthless. With a permit it's worth like a trillion dollars.

"So, what I'm thinking saying to somebody is buy it and give half to the United States of America and we'll give you the permit and they'll have a great partner, the United States."

Trump, however, would prefer for Larry Ellison, the CEO of Oracle, to make the purchase.

Ellison was right there with Trump when he made his statement, as Ellison is one of several private sector investors taking part in the Stargate project with an initial investment of $100 billion.

Ellison suggested that, eventually, $500 billion in the private sector would be put into the project.

The project is expected to create about 100,000 jobs, with the project already starting construction in Texas.

Ellison is joined the project by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son.

Trump touted the project as being “the physical and virtual infrastructure to power the next generation of AI.”

Altman added, “I think this will be the most important project of this era. We wouldn’t be able to do this without you, Mr. President.”

In a separate interview, Altman stated, “Infrastructure in the United States is super important, AI is a little bit different from other kinds of software in that it requires massive amounts of infrastructure, power, computer chips, data centers, and we need to build that here and we need to be able to have the best AI infrastructure in the world to be able to lead with the technology and the capabilities.”
