Trump Nominates Son-in-Law's Father as Ambassador to France
Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner are not going to be in Donald Trump’s next administration, but he will have another family member.
Jared’s father, Charles Kushner, has just been announced as Trump’s Ambassador to France.
Of course, there was the expected outrage from Democrats and liberals as well as the anti-Trump faction of the GOP.
All in the Family
Many ambassador positions are filled as “thank you” roles in every administration, and the next Trump administration will be no different.
This is something about our political process that I have always despised, but I doubt it will ever change.
To that point, Trump announced, “I am pleased to nominate Charles Kushner, of New Jersey, to serve as the U.S. Ambassador to France. He is a tremendous business leader, philanthropist, & dealmaker, who will be a strong advocate representing our Country & its interests.
“His son, Jared, worked closely with me in the White House, in particular on Operation Warp Speed, Criminal Justice Reform, & the Abraham Accords.”
I really wish Trump would have avoided Kushner because he is far from spotless.
The senior Kushner had been under investigation for illegal campaign contributions in a plot that involved his brother-in-law, William Schulder.
Kushner reportedly hired a prostitute to have sex with Schulder in a hotel room that was rigged with video surveillance.
The scheme failed, and the woman turned on Kushner, with Kushner eventually pleading guilty to tax evasion, witness intimidation, and lying to the FEC. He received a sentence of two years in prison in 2005.
I think there are far more deserving and accomplished people Trump could have picked for one of the most prestigious ambassadorships this country has to offer rather than Kushner.
Chris Christie, a former insider in the Trump circle and former New Jersey governor, was also the U.S. Attorney for New Jersey at the time of the crime.
Christie was the one who prosecuted Kushner, calling it “one of the most loathsome, disgusting crimes that I prosecuted when I was U.S. attorney.”
Christie still believes that Charles Kushner is why Trump removed Christie from his transition team after winning the 2016 election.
I am not really a fan of Christie, but I agree with his assessment of Kushner’s crimes, hence my opinion that there were far better choices Trump could have made for this appointment.
