Trump Names Lara Trump as Choice for Co-chair of RNC
Last year, Donald Trump tried to get his daughter-in-law into politics by pushing her to run for a Senate seat in North Carolina.
Lara Trump, the wife of Eric Trump, decided not to run, but now Trump is pushing her again.
Trump is now pushing Lara to be the co-chair of the RNC along with Michael Whatley, the current chair of the North Carolina Republican Party.
Blood is Thicker Than Water
The current RNC chair, Ronna McDaniel, is in that seat because of Trump, who endorsed her for the position after he won the 2016 election.
At the time, McDaniel, who is the niece of Senator Mitt Romney (R-UT), was the chair of the Michigan Republican Party.
McDaniel was fiercely loyal to Trump, going all in on MAGA to the point she started using RNC funds to help pay Trump’s legal bills related to the Russian collusion investigation.
That help has continued, as the RNC, as well as Trump’s PACs and campaign, are now biting off the lion’s share of Trump’s current legal bills.
The party suffered as a result, with virtually no money left in the till (the RNC reportedly only has $8 million in funds) to support other candidates.
The Republican Party got crushed in the 2020 cycle and fell considerably short of expectations in 2022 and 2023.
I bring this up for one specific point… if we have Trump loyalists in charge of the RNC moving forward, what will be different?
We were just dealt yet another loss in the New York special election to fill the seat vacated by the expulsion of George Santos because the RNC did not support the candidate, and she was not aligned with Trump.
For his part, Trump is calling out McDaniel’s failed leadership, stating, “The RNC MUST be a good partner in the Presidential election.
“It must do the work we expect from the National Party and do it flawlessly.
“This group of three is highly talented, battle-tested, and smart. They have my complete and total endorsement to lead the Republican National Committee. Every penny will be used properly.”
Does that mean that the money will be used to pay his legal bills or that money will go to marketing Republican candidates to take back the Senate and expand the lead in the House?
Those are the questions we all need to be asking before getting behind this new leadership plan that Trump has proposed for the RNC.
People may not want to hear this, but the party is bigger than Trump and if we do not have control of the Senate and House, it does not matter who we have in the White House because nothing will be accomplished without total control of Congress.
This has to be a plan for the party, not for just one person. We have seen the damage that Democrats can do, and it must be stopped.
