Trump Names Brian Driscoll as Acting FBI Director Until Patel Clears Committee

It would appear that FBI bosses are running for the hills with Trump coming into office.

Trump had already informed Director Christopher Wray, who Trump appointed, that he was on his way out, and Wray left before Trump took office.

Paul Abbatte had been named as Acting Director, but Abbatte also resigned this week, forcing Trump to name an Acting Director until Kash Patel can be confirmed.

New Blood

When Trump put Wray on notice, he noted that he would resign before Trump took office.

Once Wray formally submitted his resignation, Abbatte was named as Acting Director, but his time at the helm lasted all of one day before he retired.

Abbatte stated, "When the director asked me to stay on past my mandatory date for a brief time, I did so to help ensure continuity and the best transition for the F.B.I. Now, with new leadership inbound, after nearly four years in the deputy role, I am departing the F.B.I.

"I have complete confidence in you and in your ability as a team to continue to carry out our mission of protecting the American people and upholding the Constitution."

Abbatte was at the mandatory retirement age (57) for FBI agents, but there was no inclination that Trump would have fired him before Patel was confirmed.

However, Trump did drop the hammer during his inauguration speech, stating, "The scales of justice will be rebalanced.

"The vicious, violent, and unfair weaponization of the Justice Department and our government will end."

Trump immediately named Brian Driscoll to serve as Acting Director while Patel works his way through committee, and that could take a bit, as Dems will use every trick in the book to block him for as long as possible.

Driscoll has been an agent since 2007, having worked in New York as well as a member of FBI SWAT.

Driscoll was recently named as the agent in charge of the Newark, NJ, office.
