Trump Lawyers Request Jan. 6 Records from Pence, Biden and Justice Department

Former President Donald Trump's lawyers have requested access to the Jan. 6, 2021 records for a variety of multiple officials, including those of President Joe Biden, former Vice President Mike Pence, and the Justice Department.

The lawyers argue that the records will offer new information of significance in Trump's Washington case with special counsel Jack Smith.

“The indictment in this case reflects little more than partisan advocacy designed to sabotage President Trump’s leading campaign for the 2024 President[ial] Election,” attorneys John Lauro and Todd Blanche wrote.

“Consistent with that improper and unlawful goal, the Special Counsel’s Office has chosen to rely on the views of witnesses who aligned with the Biden Administration’s political viewpoints, and to treat those biased opinions as objective and irrefutable truths regarding the integrity of the 2020 election and the events of January 6, 2021," they added.

"Trump’s defense team is asking for information from several past government investigations, including around the election results and about the recent classified documents probe into his former Vice President Mike Pence," CNN reported.

"He says these records could be exculpatory, helping in his defense, if they show some agencies exploring election interference in 2020," it continued.

The requests came in a court filing Monday night as Trump's legal team builds its case in the battle with special counsel Smith.

The Washington charges against the former president came more than two years after the events and after Trump announced plans to run for president in 2024.

The charges have led to accusations by Trump and other supporters that the case is politically motivated, with the former president pushing back as he runs for office once again.

The latest legal move could open up a variety of new details about the events of Jan. 6 that Trump hopes will help his case in Washington.
